I am a deep tissue massage therapist/bodyworker. I specialize in Synergistic Myofascial Therapy. That is a form of very deep tissue myofascial work. The body work is performed on a table on top of the sheets. The client wears shorts (men), or sports bra and shorts or bathing suit (women). There is active movement on the part of the client and a good amount of stretching is involved. There is also little or no lotion involved. Stretching / alignment techniques – Once the tissue is sufficiently relaxed, these techniques allow the body to naturally align itself. 4. Specific exercises for specific problems – The client is taught a progression of specific, mainly stretching, exercises that target his or her specific problems. These exercises come primarily from Chinese martial arts, chi gung, and yoga. 5. Lifestyle assessment and modification – This is an in-depth, on-going assessment to identify the client’s real (not merely symptomatic) problem; as well as an on-going educational process to inform and educate the client about good habits that can be developed and bad habits that can be eliminated. Typically, our approach is to see a client for an initial appointment, which lasts for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, for an in-depth assessment and “hands-on” therapy session; after which, we recommend a therapy program designed to meet that client’s specific needs. We continuously reevaluate the client’s program. Most people come to us initially with a medical problem; after their problem is “solved” or becomes manageable, most of our client’s continue to come on a “maintenance” schedule. Generally, during massage you're nude underneath a towel or sheet and only the area of the body being worked on is undraped. The most important thing is that you are comfortable. When getting on table, relax under the sheet face up for first time clients and let the worries drift off. I will knock on the door to be sure you are ready. I start with the neck if face up and with the feet if face down. Gentle compressions turn into slow deep pressure to melt the muscle tissue to relaxation. This is your time, your recovery. It is not necessary to talk during your session, unless it is a deep tissue massage in which case I just need a little feedback about the firmness of my pressure. It is perfectly fine to fall asleep during a session. When the massage is complete, I will offer you time to enjoy the moments afterward before you get dressed. Take a few minutes to rest on the table. Sitting or standing up quickly can cause you to feel dizzy and nauseous. After a massage, I recommend you drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins released during your massage out of your system.
