Okazaki-Style Restorative Massage Therapy
By a Senior Advanced Instructor w/ 47 Years of Experience!
OUR APPROACH Our main focus is medical massage. We have worked successfully with clients ranging in age from 4 to 90 years old who have come to us with a wide variety of problems including migraine headaches, sciatica, general back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel syndrome / tendonitis, etc. We are experienced in pre & post natal massage and long-term therapy for the elderly. We are results oriented and will not take you as a client unless we feel we can help you. Quite simply, the overwhelming majority of our clients have soft tissue based problems; an area in which Western medicine falls short. A large number of our clients with whom we have had success have been in pain for substantial lengths of time (as long as 25 years) and many have exhausted all Western medicine options before coming to us. We are a drugless therapy; an alternative to pharmaceutically based healthcare. We are an on-going therapy program. Our therapy program is a 5 faceted approach, custom tailored for each client. It is, essentially, an Asian / energy based approach assembled by us and reflecting our (combined) over 78 years of experience. The program / approach consists of the following components: 1. Acupuncture / acupressure – This is mainly used for pain relief and to combat inflammation. 2. Seifhukujitsu / Okazaki style, traditional Japanese deep-tissue massage / tui na – This encompasses a wide range and large number of specific deep tissue loosening / relaxing techniques primarily based upon Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory. 3. Stretching / alignment techniques – Once the tissue is sufficiently relaxed, these techniques allow the body to naturally align itself. 4. Specific exercises for specific problems – The client is taught a progression of specific, mainly stretching, exercises that target his or her specific problems. These exercises come primarily from Chinese martial arts, chi gung, and yoga. 5. Lifestyle assessment and modification – This is an in-depth, on-going assessment to identify the client’s real (not merely symptomatic) problem; as well as an on-going educational process to inform and educate the client about good habits that can be developed and bad habits that can be eliminated. Most people come to us initially with a medical problem; after their problem is “solved” or becomes manageable, most of our client’s continue to come on a “maintenance” schedule. They have learned to appreciate the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine: the answer is to come so you don’t hurt, instead of only coming when you do hurt. Prevention is the best medicine. Gary & Kathy Lescak (see Kathy's bio at Power of Touch Massage / this site) The Okazaki method was assembled by an immigrant, Henry Seishiro Okazaki, in Hawaii in the early part of the 20th century. He was responsible for gathering, cataloging, and preserving a vast number of traditional Japanese techniques accumulated through his studies of both healing arts and martial arts by his systematic organization and teaching of these arts. Master Okazaki established an international reputation for his work.

Jenny Rock, Certified Rolfer, Licensed Massage Therapist
Massage Therapist / Bodyworker
Verona, VA 24482
I have been a Licensed massage Therapist since 1989 and a Certified Rolfer since 2001. I have also trained in Myofiacial Release and Neuromuscular Therapy, as well as many other massage modalities over the years. I focus on bodywork that helps people quickly heal from acute and chronic pain and injury. I call my unique blend of Rolfing, Myofascial Release, and Neuromuscular Therapy “medical massage.” I am also trained in the application of Kinesiotape, a medical and athletic taping system that helps the body recover from pain, injury, and bruising, while also supporting the muscles and stabilizing joints. Whether we are doing the Rolfing Series, or session work outside of it, my goal is to help you while you’re on AND off my table. I believe that every person possesses an inner wisdom regarding their body’s needs. It is my practice to trust that intution and work within that framework. I do this by combining my expertise and experience with your inherent understanding of your own body in a way that will serve you the most. We work together as a team to help you get the most out of your body, so we will discuss your goals to develop a plan of treatment that works best for you. Over the years I have combined my training and experience in a way that maximize results for each client on my table. My work is considered deep tissue, and to be clear, it’s as deep as your body will LET me go. I never work past your pain threshold, but rather inside it.

Every Body Deserves a Massage!!
Harvard Therapeutic Massage is a gathering of the most experienced and superior hands in the area. Good massage therapists and Reiki practitioners can be difficult to find, often work alone, and usually need over a week's lead time to get an appointment. HTM is changing this. HTM attracts only the best therapists. We coordinate our schedules so that if you need an appointment quickly, there will be someone available. Our mission statement says that "we few shall form a multitude." In other words, we believe that by working together we can provide much fuller, supportive services than we could if we worked by ourselves. Our goal is to create a healing, rejuvenating community. We believe wholeheartedly in the healing power of our treatments. We are pleased and excited about the positive changes that we have made in the lives of our clients and look forward to introducing you to the benefits of massage and Reiki. All of our massage therapists have Massachusetts licenses and our Reiki Practitioners are certified Reiki Masters. Each therapist is an independent contractor, with HTM providing the infrastructure. I like to think of massage therapy and yoga as methods of helping people feel better, and empowering them by creating a space to become more self aware. Once the distraction of physical stress or pain is lifted, we have the chance to take a breath and just feel good. Oftentimes, I see the stress across clients’ faces and almost literally the weight on their shoulders before a treatment. I believe holistic modalities like myofascial release massage and yoga (literally meaning “to yoke,” or “union”) give people a chance to feel their mind, body, and heart connection, and bring us back to what matters to us as individuals. When that same person walks out of the treatment room, I can tell that some part of them, maybe even just subconsciously, has remembered what it is like to rest, to breath, and to smile. I love this gift. Common problems that massage and yoga can help relieve include back pain, sciatica, shoulder and neck tension, whiplash, headaches, muscles spasms, muscle cramps, insomnia, and stress-related tension and pain.

I have been practicing massage for the past 5 years. I feel that massage needs to be more widely understood. It really is a necessity and not a luxury. I also believe as a therapist it is our main goal to listen to the client. They know what they want, sometimes as a therapist, I think we do what we think is best without explaining why we are doing what we are.

During massage therapy school, it was my vision to incorporate and balance my hobby business with my professional business. Generally, people use massage for either general relaxation and wellbeing, or to address a specific complaint, such as pain or limited range of motion. Research suggests massage therapy may contribute to both goals. Some of the general benefits of massage therapy may include: • Physical relaxation • Improved circulation, which nourishes cells and improves waste elimination • Relief for tight muscles (knots) and other aches and pains • Release of nerve compression (carpel tunnel, sciatica) • Greater flexibility and range of motion • Enhanced energy and vitality • Some clinical styles may help heal scar tissue as well as tendon, ligament, and muscle tears What specific conditions can massage therapy help? Massage therapy may help the body in many ways. Massage can relax muscle tissue, which may lead to decreased nerve compression, increased joint space, and range of motion. This may lead to reduced pain and improved function. Massage therapy may also improve circulation, which enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscle cells and helps remove waste products. These circulatory effects of massage may have value in the treatment of some inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis or edema (an excessive accumulation of fluid in body tissues, which may be reduced using manual lymph drainage). Massage therapy induces a relaxation response, which can lower the heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure; boosts the immune system; and generally decreases the physical effects of stress.

Regular and Consistent Shiatsu Treatments Can Become An
Important Part of Preventive Health Care and Treatment
Health Consultant: Health Counseling is a unique, exciting innovation in health and nutrition. As a Health Counselor, I have studied all the major dietary theories and will help you discover what approach works best for you at this point in your life. While most dietitians dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins, restrictions and lists of good and bad foods, I work with my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline. No one diet works for everyone. I will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you. I will also help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals. Ohashiatsu Consultant: Shiatsu refers to a Japanese pressure therapy used to relieve a variety of problems including back pain, neck and shoulder problems, stress, insomnia, digestive problems and fatigue. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine techniques that have been used since ancient times with Japanese innovations. It is a form of bodywork administered by thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, feet and knees. This technique stimulates the natural healing powers of the body and mind, wherefore symptoms of disease lessen and vitality is regained. By helping with blood and lymph circulation, it maintains and improves muscle tone and healthy internal organ functions. It is believed that Shiatsu can also strengthen the immune system and calm the nervous system which increases resistance to disease and stress. Regular and consistent Shiatsu treatments can become an important aspect of preventive health care as well as treatment for existing symptoms.

I offer a holistic approach to massage therapy with a massage tailored to fit your specific needs. Because each client is different, each massage is unique. I combine different modalities and techniques to assure you that you are getting exactly what your body needs to rejuvenate itself... Body, Mind and Spirit. In addition to the mechanics and techniques of competent body work, the massage therapist must be able to create a safe space for the client to heal. This comes from the physical setting that the therapist provides, and, most of all, it is in the way the therapist listens with hands and heart and responds individually, within appropriate boundaries, to the client. Before the massage begins, we will chat briefly about what specifics you are looking for in the massage and the basics of my massage. Communication is key to comfort, and comfort is key to relaxing, and relaxing is key to getting the greatest benefit from a massage.

Have a One-Hour Vacation in the Comfort of Your Own Home!
Sports Massage By Neal B. Finkelstein, Mpt, MS, LMT, CEAS
All massage therapy is performed on an outcall basis--either at your home, office, or hotel room. I perform sports massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy massage, and Swedish massage for the every day person, the weekend warrior, and/or the competitive athlete. My over 33 years experience as a massage therapist, 30+ years experience as an exercise physiologist, and 19+ years experience as a physical therapist have given me an excellent working knowledge of the human body. I published a masters thesis on "The Effects of Massage Therapy on Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness after Unaccustomed Exercise for Healthy, Sedentary Adults" in 1992. I was a staff massage therapist for the Lipton International Players Championships (tennis) in Key Biscayne, Florida for 4 years, having the privilege of working with the top tennis players in the world as well as other professional and Olympic athletes. It would be my pleasure to meet your massage therapy needs. I look forward to that opportunity to earn your business.

Relax with Massage and Hypnosis
17 years of practice has given me a very good intuitive sense with clients. I offer therapeutic massage for pain and stress management, an eclectic blend of modalities that includes Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu and Swedish Massage and Reiki. If you prefer one particular modality over another, I can do that. I base the choice of modality on the needs and preferences of the client. I also offer Reconnective Healing which is off the body energy work. My audio CD, Guided Massage for Everyone, provides step by step instructions so anyone can massage their family and friends. If you'd like other options for stress management and healing, I am also a Certified HypnoCounselor. Hypnosis is a heightened state of focused awareness that gently and effectively interrupts and replaces behavior patterns so you can easily make the changes that lead to new possibilities and behaviors. Hypnosis facilitates change in the following areas: weight loss, smoking cessation, pain management, stress management, insomnia, relationships, creativity, sports performance, confidence, public speaking and more. Call or email for a free consultation to see if hypnosis can help your particular habit or challenge.

Massage Therapy & Ayurvedic Medicine
As one of the Upper Valley's most experienced massage therapists, I am expert at tailoring massage sessions to meet your individual needs and preferences. My practice is not focused on specific massage modalities, but rather on outcome-based massage. I may combine several modalities during a massage session to provide you with effective, individualized treatment. I am also an ayurvedic practitioner. Ayurvedic medical services include wellness consultations, herbal therapy, cleansing and rejuvenation programs, and adjunctive treatment of medical conditions. The ability to provide ayurvedic treatments also allows me to enhance the effectiveness of massage sessions and to treat conditions that conventional Western massage cannot.

Massage styles/specialties: Of all massage, Hawaiian lomilomi was my first love. I learned lomi, and loved it so much I went to massage school. I love lomi because it is so deeply rejuvenating to the whole person. I have seen lomi “unstick” what was stuck whether it’s in the physical body, the emotions or the mind. When I was in massage school and had moved to the advanced level, I was given many clients that had been getting massage regularly but were coming in with the same complaints. Lomi can help shift that. I use hot stones to ground and warm the body, and guided visual imagery to help you unravel what’s stuck and envision a new story for yourself. All of this is customized—because everyone needs something different. If you have not tried lomi, I highly encourage you to do so! I also do a very comprehensive Swedish massage, and most always mix in deep tissue techniques depending on what your body needs. I use some orthobionomy techniques to help retrain muscles to return to their normal state of tone (thus relieving pain and soreness in opposing muscles), as well as passive range of motion and stretching. I always give attention to the head, hands and feet—to me, a massage isn’t as satisfying without it. And, when needed, I’ll also incorporate some abdominal work. One of the key things I learned in massage school is that often “where it hurts is not where the problem is.” So I’m good at being a detective, and spending time making what hurts feel better, and being sure to work on the opposing muscle groups to relieve what’s actually causing pain. I also offer Raindrop therapy. Raindrop combines the powerful energetic, immune-supportive, and detoxifying properties of essentials oils to affect positive changes in the body--essentially helping the body to rebalance and return to a normal, vital state. Most people think of essential oils as aromatherapy--the stuff that smells good--but aren't as aware that essential oils are literally the unique "medicine" of particular plants, trees, flowers, roots and fruits in their most concentrated form. We apply about 150 drops of 10 different essential oils that work together to balance all systems of the body energetically. I've found Raindrop to be especially helpful for those that have chronic conditions like recurring headaches, pain, infections, stress (including emotional and traumatic) and forms of inflammation. Clients typically feel a greater sense of wellbeing after a session, feel rebalanced and rejuvenated, experience a reduction of pain, are able to rest better, and find their immune systems are more effective. Most feel the benefits immediately and find they last a week or longer, and will repeat as necessary until the body settles into a new place of balance. And my newest service...Bellanina Face Lift massage! The most luxurious and effective method of toning and tightening muscles of the face without surgery. If this resonates with you, schedule a session today!
