Types of Massage I perform: Swedish Massage Swedish Massage uses a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction percussive and vibration techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. It is used primarily for full-body sessions and promotes general relaxation, improves blood circulation and range of motion, and relieves muscle tension. Swedish is the most common type of massage. Deep Tissue Massage Deep Tissue releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. I have been practicing massage since 1989. I have been certified in Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) in addition to the basic Swedish I learned in a one year massage class in Minneapolis Mn. Northern Lights School of Massage, now know as Centerpoint. Since massage school, I have worked for three different places of busines, the longest being the Marsh Spa in Minnetonka MN for 18 years this year. I do mostly rehab work using my NMT skills. I also have taken a stretching seminar and use that in conjuction with the specific work of NMT. In addition to the rehabilitation work, I do relaxation body treatments and LaStone treatments. I have a massage table and am willing to go to the clients place of business or home to provide massage.

In the last semester at Swedish Institute, we were asked to choose electives. During the first five weeks of the semester I studied Thai Massage. I will always remember exactly how my partner was stretching me when I decided that this modality is superior to all those that I had previously been exposed to. That same day I began to make plans to study in Thailand.
