The Essence of Harmony takes an holistic and preventative approach to treating clients. A full consultation is taken prior to the treatment in order to tailor the treatment to the client; after-care advice is also given if requested. The Pinehurst Centre is project where they hold many different disciplines with lots of alternative/holistic therapists practising there. I generally use a combination of techniques to alleviate tension and pain, customizing each session to met the needs of each individual client. I choose from my "tool-belt" of experience in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, and Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is a modality in which I have two bars placed on the ceiling over my massage table, which look like upside-down parallel bars. I hold these bars for balance, stand on the massage table, and use my feet to deliver deep, broad, and thoroughly relaxing pressure to the back, glutes, and back of the legs. It's known as "the world's deepest, most luxurious massage" - so if you like heavy, relaxing pressure, then this is a modality you must try! I use Swedish massage to relax and flush out the body's tired muscles, and deep tissue to work specific areas that need extra or very focused and concentrated work. Hot Stone therapy can be used solely for relaxation purposes, or can be used intermittently to soften muscles and prepare them for deeper, more focused work. I also hold a certification in Lymphatic Drainage Technique. I have used this modality, with great results, at the request of clients with lyphodema, clients undergoing cancer treatments, and even clients in the final weeks of pregnancy - to reduce discomfort and swelling in the limbs. In addition, I have also been a certified Birth Doula, assisting pregnant women and their partners since 2006. I offer informational, emotional, mental, and physical support prior to labor and throughout the labor and birth process. The type of massage that I offer is a combination of modalities based on each client's needs. Most sessions start with a gentle rocking of the body. This helps me to determine which specific areas of the client's body need more attention. To relax the body and calm the nervous system, I generally start with flowing strokes. Once exterior muscles are relaxed, pressure is increased and I begin to work on more specific areas of the body. The massage is generally finished up with a relaxing facial massage and gentle circulation balancing. Clients may also request aromatherapy massage, heat therapy, energy work, and chakra balancing - either as stand alone treatments or in combination. Clients who come to the farm for a massage also have the choice of location for the massage: in my massage room, or weather permitting, out in the forest glen. Besides offering massage therapy services, I lead monthly country living workshops on the farm and offer a variety of plants from my greenhouses.
