David Morgan grew up in Powell, Tennessee. He graduated from the Webb School of Knoxville, then went to Middlebury College in Vermont. He graduated Cum Laude with an Honors degree in Religion. His areas of study were liberation theology in modern Buddhism, with concentrations in South Asian studies, music composition, and creative writing.

After graduation, David held a myriad of jobs, from teaching 4th grade in the Bronx to teaching English as a second language to Tibetan refugees for the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala, India. He has worked as a marketing director for a surgical equipment company, as well as a copywriter for travel publications, financial publications, alternative health publications, and a registered investment advisor.
